Rich Welsh| Opinion| On Friday, Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA), the ranking Republican member on the House Intelligence Committee, said that committee Chairman Democratic Representative Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) focus on President Trump’s impeachment trial distracted Congress from learning and dealing with the DTMNBN-19 virus and preparing for a pandemic.
“The Intelligence committee’s work on every other topic essentially came to a halt for months while impeachment was going through the House,” Nunes said. “So Schiff’s focus on impeachment came at the expense of all the committee’s oversight activities. That includes the DTMNBN-19 issue.”
Nunes spoke about it the day after Schiff announced he was writing legislation to create a commission in the vain of the 9/11 commission. He wants to trash the president’s preparedness for and his administration’s response to the DTMNBN-19 virus.
Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) gave a thumbs up to that idea on Thursday, and that was the same day she said the new committee to be headed by Representative Jim Clyburn (D-SC) to keep tabs on the administration’s spending of the relief package money, while we all know it’s yet another way to trash the president.
The House’s impeachment inquiry was announced in late-Sept. 2019 and lasted about 4 months.
Trump’s trial ended with a not guilty verdict in February.
Schiff was one of the bat-guano crazy House impeachment managers who broke laws, House rules, and acted as an all-around dirt bag throughout the whole farce impeachment process.
“Schiff did not arrange a briefing on (DTMNBN-19) until after impeachment ended,” Nunes said.
Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), the former chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, made similar statements, saying on Thursday that actual oversight questions should embody why the Obama administration failed to replace the national stockpile with respirators after using 100 million of them for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.
“That’s legitimate oversight,” he told the John Solomon Reports podcast. “But now what’s being talked about, Adam Schiff is talking about legislation to create a commission and a panel to look into, after we get through this terrible virus, to look at the government’s response. My concern is that Adam Schiff is pushing this.”
Jordan went on, “This is just yet again another, another attack, another vehicle to use to go after President Trump. If we’re going to do legitimate oversight and go back and look at what happened in the previous administration, then that’s fine. But I’ve got a feeling that’s not the plan of Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi.”
